Thunder V1.3
This file contains information regarding Thunder V1.3 which may not be
contained in the manual or which supplements that information.
1. Version 1.3 includes an "anagram function" in the stand
alone version of the program (Thunder.prg). Simply select
"Anagrams" from the dropdown and you can make anagrams from
letters of your choice.
2. Within the program, memory management has been improved.
Thus, you are no longer limited to 20 "ignore repeats"
and "change all" options - the program allows as many as
there is memory in the machine.
3. Some programs, such as 1st word, use certain control codes for
indicating attributes like bold or underline. Versions of
Thunder! prior to V1.2 sometimes did not work properly with
these codes. Please note that this version will properly handle
these special codes.
Version 1.3 has further improved on this.
4. When Thunder! replaces a word on the screen, it first sends a number
of backspaces to reach the spot in your text where the word will be
replaced. Programs such as 1st Word V1.06 and later, interfere with
the ST's auto-repeat of the backspace key. To compensate for this,
we have included an item in the OPTIONS screen of the Thunder! desk
accessory where you can specify a backspace delay rate between 0 and
200. Most programs operate most efficiently with a setting of zero
(the default). 1st Word V1.06 requires that you set it to 11 or higher.
Experiment with this option setting if you find that Thunder! is not
replacing the word in the correct position. Fast typists may find that
they prefer to use alternate wordprocessors with Thunder!
5. We have included a little utility called "BICLOCK.PRG" on
the Thunder disk. This utility allows you to set the time and
date of your ST very easily. Place it in your "AUTO" folder.
It has its own HELP function to explain how it works. Enjoy!
6. There are some 'bugs' in the operating system of the ST which
affect the proper operation of the Thunder! programs.
Because of this, you should be aware of the following:
a) If you need to reload a desk accessory, you must reboot the
computer. This reboot must be a HARD reboot (ie: switch the
machine OFF and then ON again.) This is true after changing
resolution modes as well. (You should change resolution,
save the desktop, and then restart your computer.)
The reason for this is that desk accessories are only
reset when a hard boot is performed.
b) If you only have a single floppy, do not access disk B
from the accessory. If you get any system errors/messages
within the accessory (such as 'PLACE DISK B IN DRIVE A,
or YOUR DISK MAY BE WRITE PROTECTED etc), your system may
crash, so be careful.
This is unfortunate, but it is out of our hands until Atari
releases a new version of TOS.
7. THUNDER! the desk accessory works with most well behaved
GEM applications, including 1st Word. If you are using 1st Word
in "justify" mode, you should get Thunder! to correct mistakes
as soon as they happen or 1st Word may insert spaces into your
text without Thunder's knowledge.
8. If you have Thunder! the desk accessory running, switch
off auto check mode before using either 'MICRO C Shell', or
MICHTRON's DOS shell, or they will not function properly. In
fact, it is advisable to switch off auto check mode before
running any non-GEM applications.
9. The user's manual shows the main screen of the desk
accessory as having a scroll bar. Please note that the screen
in fact only has up and down arrows (which move you a page up
and down). The keyboard up and down arrows may be used instead of
clicking on the screen arrows with the mouse to scroll through the
available words.
10. The configuration file for the desk accessory is always
kept on drive A. (THACC.CNF). If you change it from the options
screen, and click on OK, please ensure the correct disk is
in drive A.
11. The manual refers to the supplementary dictionary as both
SUPPL.DIC and SUPP.DIC.
These both refer to the same file which on your disk
is actually called SUPP.DIC.
12. If you are using other B.I. products that use our
"Function Key/Replay" desk accessory, to be safe you
should only place either Thunder! the desk accessory
or FUNKEY.ACC on your boot disk.
