30 years ago, the XM-301 was my very first modem, so this program was also my introduction in going on-line in all its 300 baud glory. I remember being a bit frustrated since the program wasn't very intuitive. The program sometimes froze, and toggling between the menu and terminal screen to download or upload never worked as well it could have. I also recall on more than one occasion when XE Term glitched up on me, and the only way to get it to work again was to hang up the modem and disconnect from the BBS. Which then led to angry emails from the sysops the next time I logged on, telling me that I didn't log off correctly, and by hanging up like that, it also caused their BBS to crash. :)
But at least one sysop took pity to my dilemma and told me to use Keith Ledbetter's 1030 Express! instead. That (and later 850 Express!) were my favorite terminal programs until Bob Term came along a few years later. |
