In 2004 my 4 years old granddaughter enjoyed playing Atari VCS Cookie Monster Munch, an educational game programmed by Gary Stark in 1983 featuring the famous Sesame Street voracious character. The game is simple but, using kid's controller covered by the special overlay with arrows and cookie button, it can be fun and help children become familiar with directional arrows and relational concepts of up, down, left and right. In 2008 I programmed for my daughter an even simpler version for Atari 8-bit computers. I think children should play the game with kid's controller (they are unable to push joysticks) and overlay (you can find it in original Atari VCS game or print the one I scanned and uploaded in AtariAge A8 forum. In Basic's listing there are a lot of REMs so everyone can undertand it and perhaps get the inspiration to make a game. |
