TEXT TRANSLATION VERSION 0.2 GRAHAM STEEL DECEMBER 1990

This package is an update of version 0.1 which I have distributed to
a few people at work. There are a few bugs in it, and I am not sure
that some of these are not Sozobon problems. But I want to leave the
package for now and concentrate on a translation program for binary
files (programs, resource files, etc).

The contents of this disk comprise a language translation package
which is my own work but which I am making freely available to all
who want it. The programs display copyright notices, but the contents
of this disk may be copied and distributed without restriction. The
contents are as follows:

DOC folder: contains documentation for the main package in both First
Word format and as a text file.

GERMAN.DIC: German to English dictionary. The package is designed so
that the dictionary can be readily expanded, and so that dictionaries
for other languages can also be created and used.

TXLAT.TTP: The main program. Read the documentation for usage. However,
a simple invocation would be as follows. Double click on the icon and
when the parameters box appears, type "MYFILE.TXT", where MYFILE.TXT
is a German text file present on the same disk as TXLAT.TTP. The
program will create two files, MYFILE.ENG and NEW.DIC. The former
will contain the English translation, the latter a list of German
words that the package did not recognise.

ADDTODIC.TTP: Utility for updating the dictionary. See the main
documentation for details.

XLAT folder: Contains program and documentation for a very simple
package designed for translating binary files (programs and resource
files). I wrote this before I wrote TXLAT, and this one does not
even use the dictionary. I have no plans for updating XLAT (despite
what the documentation might say). I want to completely rewrite it
so that it will use the dictionary. The rewrite will be an interactive
program in which the user selects blocks of text within the file.
However, going by the current rate of development, I cannot see this
program being available before next summer.

TESTING
=======

The full documentation describes the formal testing for this trans-
lation package. I tested version 0.1 and found a few bugs. Some of the
tests in version 0.2 have still failed, but I think that the failures
are tolerable. The only really nasty thing that I have observed was
where AddToDic failed to report a disk full error when updating the
dictionary - it just left a partial dictionary on the disk. Make sure
that you keep a backup of a recent dictionary. So the test results
are as follows:

7.1 All passed.
7.2 Bombed out on part 2, others passed.
7.3 All passed.
7.4 Pass.
7.5.1 Pass.
7.5.2 Fail. No error messages, just left a partial dictionary on
	  the disk.
7.5.3 Pass.
7.5.4 Pass.
7.5.5 Pass.
7.5.6 Pass.
7.5.7 Pass.
7.5.8 Dialogue box about protected disk comes up. Fine if you click
on Cancel, but bombs out if you click on Retry.
7.5.9 As for 7.5.8.
7.5.10 Fail, sort of. Does not completely abort operation as it
	  should.
7.5.11 thru
7.5.14 Not carried out these tests yet: going to be very tedious.
If anybody would like to do it for me ...
7.5.15 Pass.
7.5.16 Pass.
7.5.17 Pass.
7.6 Pass.
7.7 No test - I can't count!
7.8 Pass.
7.9 Pass.
7.10 Pass.
