Instructions - ESQuizit1

                           -=Esquizit1 Instructions=-

I wrote this program in machine language using ASEKA. It may contain
a few bugs here and there, but for the most part it is error free. The
format for the four different types of files are as follows:

                   1. PATCH file - $FC, comments, 102 bytes of data

                   2. BANK file - $FF, comments, 4080 bytes od data

                   3. 1 SEQUENCE file - $FD, comments,
                                        2 bytes containing number (n)
                                        of bytes in sequence,
                                        n bytes of data

                   4. ALL SEQUENCE file - $FE, comments,
                                          306 bytes of sequencer variables,
                                          4080 bytes for a BANK
                                          2 bytes containing number (n)
                                          of bytes in sequences,
                                          n bytes of data

When loading a bank from MAIN MENU, you can load the STANDARD type , the
C64 BLANK SOFT FORMAT type, or IBM MIDIEX FORMAT type files. Other types may
work also. You can load a BANK from an ALL SEQUENCE file into the AUX BANK,
it just loads the bank and ignores the rest of the data in the file. When
GETTING a patch from the ESQ-1 or from DISK, you'll notice it is stored in
the first location of the AUX BANK buffer. This makes it easy to transfer to
tha BANK when you want to configure your own bank.

When LOADING or SAVING files notice that '.ESQ' is added as an extension
if you didnt enter an extension. If you dont want an extension enter the file
name with just the period (i.e. CANOND. ). You might have to do that when
loading NON-STANDARD files. You can enter 1-16 for midi channels. You can
change the default drive so you can view/save/load files from another disk
drive. When you exit the program the origional drive is activated.

As for the PERFORMANCE MODE section, this is something I find useful in
my own applications where I play the guitar. I can set-up a performance by
writing a song on the ESQ-1 w/drumtracks and what-not, enter upto 40 of
those songs into a '.PRM' file and goto town!!! If you want to skip a song
or go back you can position the song selector with the <- and -> keys.
When a song is done playing it moves to the next one unless there isn't a
next one, in which case it goes back to the first. You can exit this mode
by pressing the key. Only the STANDARD ALL SEQUENCE files are allowed
here (obviously).

I worked many hours on this program, I hope it will be useful to some
of you ESQ-1/ST owners. Feel free to send me your contributions to the
program, I'd also be interested in hearing some of your own creations.

                                            Enjoy,

                                                 Rick Koch
