Instructions - Zaan

ZAAN
~~~~
BY ANDREW SANDERSON.
SCENARIO: Evil aliens from the planet
Zaan have invaded the Earth,completely
mechanising its surface. A resistance
movement built-up and finally
developed a spacecraft capable of
wiping out the Zaanons.All they needed
was someone to pilot it...Looks like
thats your job, buddy.
LOADING: To load Zaan,double-click on
ZAAN.SCK, NOT ZAAN.PRG.
FEATURES: ZAAN has the following
features:
SIMULTANEOUS TWO-PLAYER ACTION-You can
play alone or plug a joystick into the
mouse port and get a friend to help.
Two player mode is activated by player
two pressing fire at anytime during
the game. This has the advantage that
player one can play as far as he can
get, then player two can take over.
Of course, in two-player mode, you
have to share extra lives.
PUSH-SCROLL AND SCROLLING LEVELS-Each
of the four levels alternates between
push-scrolling and scrolling. This
gives a different style of gameplay
to each level.(For instance,push-
scroll levels are more of a commando
style game than scrolling levels.)
PILLS TO COLLECT-Although there are no
extra weapons, you can pick up extra
life pills (L pills) and points pills
(P pills). There is also a mystery
pill (? pill) that either gives you an
extra life, points, or kills you!
Picking it up is always a gamble.
LARGE GUARDIANS-At the end of each
level you must face the Zaanons secret
weapon-The X34Z. This is harder to
beat everytime you meet it, but learn
its attack patterns and you should
win through. As a reward for beating
it, it leaves behind pills when it
explodes.
HINTS: Here are some tips I picked up
on whilst play-testing ZAAN.
1.On push-scroll levels(ZONES 1+3),
dont rush. Nudge the joystick up, and
the aliens will appear one at a time.
This is particularly useful on the
latter half of Zone 3.
2.Hold fire down, rather than press
the button like mad!
3.Dont go after points pills if it
will place you in danger. Extra life
pills are worth the risk.
4.In two player mode, try to share the
extra lives out. You will get further
into the game that way.
5.When the X34Z blows up, grab the
pills it leaves quickly, before the
game jumps to the next level.
6.Learn where and when the aliens come
from.
7.Practise like mad!
8.Remember it is NOT impossible-I can
complete it without a cheat mode.
I hope you enjoy playing Zaan!
