Welcome to Times, the Networkable Tic-Tac-Toe Game, v1.0!

Times is simply Tic-Tac-Toe with a bit more added on. First, a
computer that is easily beaten has been added. (Who wants to play
Tic-Tac-Toe against a computer that ties all the time?) Second,
networking support has been added. Admittedly, the networking support
isn't perfect, but it does exist and will be expanded in future.
Eventually, I hope to have Internet support for Times.

Times is easy to install, operate, and configure:

+ To install, unzip the Times package anywhere.

+ To operate, click on a square, or type the moves with the
numbers 1-9, where 1 is the bottom left corner and 9 is
the top right. The numeric keypad is an exact copy of
               the layout of the board.

+ To configure, select "Edit Options" from the "Options"
portion of the menu. You can also select the Options
Dialog with CONTROL-E. From there, the dialog contains
options for both X and O. The types of players and the
way which the X's and O's are displayed are configurable.

Perhaps the most difficult part of the setup is starting a
networked game. For now, there is no way that the two machines can
communicate directly in a networked game, so the two players must decide
beforehand what options to use. Let's assume that two players have a
serial connection between their two computers on modem 1, and both
players are in a terminal program which has set the baud rate of the
port. First, the players must agree on who is X and who is O. Second,
both players must decide who goes first. Third, both players must
configure their games. The X player must set the X mode to local (i.e.
"Local : All", "Local : Mouse", or "Local : Keyboard") and the O mode to
remote (in this case, "Remote: Modem 1"). The O player must do the
reverse, setting the O mode to local and the X mode to remote. Then
both players must select the SAME player to go first (no cheating). Now
the game can begin!

Times was programmed on a 14meg Falcon030 with TOS 4.04 using
Lattice C version 5.6. It should run on all machines with all versions
of TOS, because it uses only VDI calls. Times runs in all resolutions
and is should be fully compatible with all graphics cards and screen
enhancers. The only limitation is that Times does not run in True
Color. (If you discover a problem, please mail me!)

Times is freely distributable as long as it is not tampered with in
any way. The package should contain only TIMES.PRG (program), TIMES.RSC
(English resource), README (this file), and ICON\ICON.RSC (desktop
icon). If you write foreign language resources, please e-mail them to
me in a UUEncoded format to the address below, and they will be included
in future releases.

I will be on vacation for the next month, so don't expect any new
releases until then.

Times is commentware, so if you use it, please send me a comment
about it. Comments, criticisms, suggestions, or general chit-chat are
welcome. Please e-mail me at jbaumgar@coil.com, Baumgardner.19@osu.edu,
or send a postcard to the following address:
