(Parents'!) guide
1. Introduction
Mathmaze is a simple arithmetic-is-fun type of program designed to give young
children practice in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
A variety of options can be set and altered to give easy, average or more
difficult questions, concentrate on any combination of the arithmetical
operations, and to provide short, medium, or long 'mazes'.
It is recommended that parents read through this documentation before
introducing the program to their children. MATHMAZE is simple to use,
particularly if the child has experience of other ST programs. No
keyboard input is required: everything is done with the mouse pointer
2. Hardware
Atari ST, 512k+ memory,
Single or double-sided disk drive
Monochrome monitor or emulator
(A monochrome emulator is available from the ST club, PD disk UTI.137)
3. Installation
Copy the files MATHMAZE.PRG and MMRES.RSC from the distribution disk (which
you should keep as a back-up) to the disk and directory from which you wish
to run MATHMAZE. The program is run in the usual way, by double-clicking on
the MATHMAZE.PRG icon in the desktop directory window.
4. Playing the game
Guide the knight in armour to the treasure! At the top right is an arithmetic
sum. Around the knight in the maze are several numbers, one of which is the
right answer to the sum. Click with the mouse pointer on the answer you think
is the correct one. If it is, you will hear a happy sound (if the volume on
the monitor is turned up!) and the knight will move on to the square you have
just selected. If not, you will hear a gloomy chord, and a tombstone will
appear. Bad luck, try again! If you make it to the treasure, you will be
congratulated on getting there.
