CLOGGED UP
A GAME BY RESERVOIR GODS

OVERLAY. TITLE "THE FLAT OF THE LAND"
EXT. THE WINDMILL - SUNSET
The dutch lowlands. The windmills sails
cast long shadows across the flat land.
A tall figure strides towards the
entrance, his pace in sync with the
windmill's motion.
INT. THE WINDMILL.
PETER CHANDELIER closes the door and
hangs up his coat. His wife KAAT looks
up and smiles.
KAAT
How was your day?
PETER
Yuss yuss. Very good. The tulip
crop is coming up well. How was
the whoring today?
KAAT
(laughing) I had an English client today
who wanted me to dress up as a car park.
PETER
(grimacing). Those English are all
perverts.
CUT TO: Darkness. A door opens
revealing this is in the interior of a
shoe cupboard.
It is packed from floor to ceiling with
a shiny array of clogs. PETER removes
the clogs from his feet and tosses them
into the cupboard. As the door closes
there seems to be movement from within
the cupboard as if THE SHOES ARE ALIVE!
EXT. THE TULIP FIELDS - DAY
PETER is seen walking in slow motion
through the field, his hand draping
through the tulips whilst choral music
plays in the background.
CUT TO: PETER's face fills the frame.
His eyes narrow in consternation. Beads
of sweat form on his forehead.
INT. THE COFFEE SHOP - DAY
Amongst the clouds of smoke a group of
farmers are in an agitated discussion.
The door bursts open revealing an ashen
faced PETER.
PETER
(anguished)The TULIPS!
FARMER #1
Yuss son. We know.
FARMER #2
Calm down son. Have a spliff.
PETER
No thanks, I'm trying to give up.
(pointing to his arm)
I have this Skunk patch.
(a beat)But the tulips!
FARMER #1
Sit down son. I have a tale to tell.
EXT. THE DUTCH LOWLANDS - DAY
Aerial flyby of the flat country.
FARMER #1 (V.O.)
For centuries, Holland was God's own
country, an unblemished flemmish paradise.
It's people were honest, gentle,
god-fearing folk surviving on an humble
existence of tulip farming, prostitution,
soft drugs and hardcore pornography.
But in 1305, a great tragedy struck the
land. A young fluffer by the name of Ruud
Awakanin tripped on the ground. The
nation was shocked. This area of the
ground WAS NOT TOTALLY FLAT.
The nation went into mourning. Why was
God punishing them like this? They
planned to sacrifice virgins to appease
their deity, but could find none in the
country and had to invade Luxembourg.
But the bloodshed was to no avail. The
bump remained. Just as all seemed lost,
a resourceful dyke repair man stepped in
with an invention that would save the
nation.
Using the simple power of trees, he
fashioned a pair of wooden shoes that
he dubbed "clogs". Using these he was
able to stand on the bump and flatten it
and the country was saved.
INT. THE COFFEE SHOP - DAY
FARMER #1
And now, some 700 years later, bumps
have been discovered again in the tulip
fields, threatening to destroy our
crops. But history teaches how we can
restore the equilibrium ...
PETER
(interrupting)Of course! The clogs! I
must flatten the land with these wooden
wonders!
PETER quickly exits the coffee shop,
dashing off into the distance.
INT. THE CLOG CUPBOARD - DAY
A low rustling noise can be heard which
increases in volume until you can make
out that it is a single word being
repeated by a multitude of voices:
"BUMP". The clogs are talking.
BATTERED OLD CLOG:
It is happening again!
BABY CLOG:
(nervously)What? What?
BIG BLUE CLOG:
The bumps! Like the legend!
BATTERED OLD CLOG:
They will make us walk the earth. From
dusk till dawn we will be trodden into
the ground to flatten this bump. We will
be awash in footsweat.
BROWN CLOG:
I can't take it. We will be worn out. It
will be the scrapheap for us!
YELLOW CLOG:
Cobblers.
CAMERA pans down to a small red clog at
the bottom of the pile. Amidst all the
hubub, this shoe is sitting calmly,
thinking.
CLARK CLOG (V.O.)
It was at this point that I made my
mind up. I had to get out. I wasn't
going to be walked over any more.
Slowly and surely, I drew up my plans
to escape.

GAMEPLAY
The objective of the game is to get
your clog to the exit. To achieve this
you must move all pieces that are
blocking the path to the exit out of the
way.
There are 3 types of pieces.
The horizontal pieces can only be moved
horizontally.
Vertical pieces can only be moved
vertically.
On later worlds you will encounter
square pieces that can be moved both
horizontally and vertically.
The less moves you make to complete a
level, the better your score will be.
Complete all levels to unlock the next
world.

LOSCORES
Here you can view all the loscores from
all worlds.
Select the world you want to view, then
page through all the scores using the
'NEXT' and 'PREV' buttons.
The 'MENU' button returns you to the
frontend.

HELP
Displays a brief overview of how to play
the game.

STATS
Displays a load of stats about the
games that you have played. The
following stats are shown:
Rounds
- The total number of levels played
Solo Games
- number of solo games played
Multi Games
- number of multiplayer games played
Levels Completed
- number of levels completed
Levels Perfected
- number of levels perfected
Helps Used
- total number of helps used
Helps Gained
- total number of helps gained
Moves Made
- total number of moves made
Total LoScore
- total score from all levels
Play Time
- hours wasted

OPTIONS
Here you can set up the game audio and
video.

AUTOSAVE
Enabling this option means that game
will save after every level.
If you disable autosave, the game will
only save on exit.

OPTIONS AUDIO
Here you turn the music and sound fx on
and off, change the volume and toggle
the internal speaker state.

OPTIONS VIDEO
Here you can switch the display
frequency between 50 and 60hz, change
the gamma levels and centre the screen.

PLAY
You can choose to play the game in solo
or multiplayer mode.
In solo mode your aim is just to
complete the level and move to the next.
In multiplayer mode your aim is to
complete the board before your opponent
does.

CONTROLLER SELECT
Here you can select the controller(s)
used by the players and the world to
play.
Valid controllers are:
Mouse, Joysticks, Keyboard & JagPads.
With the world select, you start the
game with only World 1 unlocked. As you
progress, you will unlock fresh and new
worlds.

LEVEL SELECT
In this screen you are presented with a
display of all the levels from the
currently selected world.
Each world starts with the first level
being unlocked, and all the other
levels being locked.
When you complete a level, the next
level in that world will become
unlocked.
When you complete all levels in a
world, the next world will become
unlocked.
Each level will apear in one of 3
different states:
- Unlocked (level is open for play)
A blank tile is shown.
- Locked (level is not yet open)
A tile with crossed bars at top and
bottom is shown.
- Perfected (you got a perfect score)
A tile with gold bars at top and
bottom is shown.

GAME
You must get your clog to the exit.
This is achieved by moving other clogs
out of the way.
To move a piece, move your cursor over
it then hold down fire. Drag the piece
to your desired location and release
fire.
Once the path is clear to the exit, the
clog will escape and you will move on
to the next level.
If you have achieved a loscore, you
will be asked to enter your name for
the loscore table.
There are three buttons you can click
on during gameplay. From top to bottom
these are:
UNDO [curly arrow]
This will undo the last move you have
made. You can click on this multiple
times to undo multiple moves.
RESET [switch]
Clicking this will reset the board
into its initial state.
HELP [?!]
This will make the next move for you.
If you have already made some incorrect
moves, it will first reset the board.
You gain extra helps by completing or
perfecting levels.
If you use helps in a level, you will
not get a loscore or gain any new helps
for that level.
To exit the game, press F10.

MULTIPLAYER MODE
In this hectic bout of gladitorial
combat, the screen is split in two.
Each round begins with some serious
shuffle time - this is not an excuse to
stroke yourself, this is when you
should mess up the board as much as
possible.
When shuffle time ends, the boards are
swapped so you have to unscramble the
board that your opponent messed up.
The first player to release their clog
wins the round.
If you are a fast shuffler and want
to get to the action ASAP, simply click
on the tick box to indicate you have
finished shuffling. When both players
have ticked, the boards will swap.
