Another winner from Atari on the 5200. Nicely designed levels to mimic the arcade. One hardly notices that all sprites are flat and single colored... hardly...
The star is bits of Pokey chip music goodness.

An amazing arcade classic that looks and plays so wonderfully well. It's much prettier and more challenging than the 2600 version we all know and love. The 4-way movement is something you'll either love or hate.

As wonderful as the game looks and sounds, the inability to move diagonally just ruins what should have been a near-perfect arcade translation. The programmer - whoever they are - has some explaining to do. GCC also did the VCS version, which has diagonal movement and makes that version far more fun to play.

This is one of my favorite obscure arcade games, and this 5200 implementation is nearly perfect. The look, feel, and sound of the arcade are as closely implemented as possible. I wish they'd had some way to implement the 4-button firing scheme of the arcade controls, but doing so would have been awkward as it would have required the use of the keypad. Still, the compromise offered is good, and the game play doesn't suffer much because of it.

If you're like me and enjoy Vanguard at the arcade, get this one!
