Might be better to talk about the actual, you know, GAME, in the comment section.
This little gem is actually amazingly playable football game. I don't usually care for sports, or sports games, but these cute, old games have a special place in my heart.
The surprising thing about this football game, is that it's actually really playable, very well done, and so incredibly cute as well. I love how 'alive' the ball is, the sound effects are perfect, the little players are nicely animated, and gameplay just flows perfectly.
This might even be better than my other old favorite, 'Commodore Soccer' (or 'International Soccer'), with bigger, but chunkier players.
I love both, but after playing both of these on real computers (Atari 800XL and Commodore 64 C), I actually came to the realization that I like Realsports Soccer a bit more. Could be because it looks smoother and more realistic when you score a goal, you feel a bit more in control, there's more play area because the players are smaller, so tactics are more interesting, and so on.
The only little nitpick I can muster up is the lack of audience and proper audience reaction that you get from the C64 game, but other than that, this Atari game is a brilliant gem that belongs to the list of anyone's top ten football games, if they have any sanity left.
Recommended very highly, even if you don't like football or sports games normally. Oh, and this game has a very thick and inspiring atmosphere as well (hardest thing to explain). |
