I did not have this game as a kid, but playing it 30 years later, I find appreciation of the altered gameplay, compared to its predecessor. If it came out in 1981, it would have been a similar smash hit, but unfortunately, the situation was already different in 1984.
Anyway, the game present its challenges, but feels easier than the original. A good game, though, in many ways.

Christensen strikes again. This Scramble clone is from 1981?!
How does he manage to get such large colourful sprites back then? I mean, our ship is multicolored and has flames too!
The game is fun too.

From WikiPedia: "Mars Mission II
Christensen followed Caverns in 1981 with a lesser-known sequel, known originally as Caverns of Mars II. This version is very similar to Scramble, scrolling sideways and featuring rockets that launched upwards from the ground. The game was completed in 1981, but for reasons that are not clear, it was not released. It would not be published until several years later by Antic Software, renamed Mars Mission II.["
LbnL the Antic Software release year was 1984.
