It was only sold through the Atari Age magazine as an exclusive. It never saw wide release. Why I don't know, because the VCS version was and is rather faithful. Why pay for a license and then not fully take advantage of it? Perhaps Atari's lack of faith was the result of the game being done by an outside firm, Roklan Corp., who didn't impress anybody with their game, Racer. Perhaps they felt the standard 8K wasn't enough, but yet Atari's SuperChip was available and not used for this (and it should have been). Maybe the exclusive sales weren't what Atari expected, and that's why it never saw a wide release. Or maybe they put too much importance on EG's horrible review. Then again, Atari was not all together unfamiliar with making horrible decisions under Kassar's and Morgan's leadership, so I guess we shouldn't be that surprised it was mishandled. |
