Atari A to Z (Pete Davison)4 Jul 2022
It's time to get waggling as we take a look at Konami's Track & Field, which got a surprisingly solid port to the Atari 8-Bit in the early '80s. Let's Play! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIS8blBMVkQ

I had so much fun playing this game with my friends. Even alone it was fun. We killed so many joysticks! :D

The name of this game on title screen is written differently depending whether NTSC or PAL video mode is detected. "Track and Field" in NTSC, "Los Angeles 1984 Games" if PAL.

A pretty decent arcade conversion. The graphics are blockier than the simpler Decathlon, but still quite fun. I used to play this with a ColecoVision controller as it not only was compatible, but you could use the numeric keypad in lieu of the proverbial back-and-forth of the joystick when running.
Wasn't Atari also the official home computer of the 1984 Olympics? I watched the games but don't ever recall Atari being mentioned in the bumpers, much less seeing their commercials. (I think this was around the time that Jack Tramiel took over, so the company was undergoing a bit of an overhaul.)

I don't know why this has such a crap score. It's much better than Decathlon by Activision.
