My first encounter with the Atari 8-bit computers was at my neighborhood friend's house right after he had gotten a new Atari 400. This was one of the games in the collection of games he had gotten with the machine. It wasn't necessarily my favorite of the bunch, but it was cool and we had fun playing it and it remains a game of high nostalgia for me. The sound was perhaps its most memorable feature. Among the "starter" games in his collection, Star Raiders, Pac Man, Caverns of Mars, and even Dog Daze out-ranked this one; but it was still fun and I still give it a play on occasion.

I remember this game being really good. I can't believe how many games I have forgotten about since I was little. A blast from the past returns.

Bill Williams' first game shows why he is so revered. The concept is simple (guide a salmon upstream to reach a mate, by jumping over waterfalls and diving underwater to camouflage yourself from predators) but the execution is perfect. Controls are responsive, the sound effect replicate ocean waves better than you'd imagine the A8 hardware could, and there's even a little animated reward after each level. Magical.
