PLAYING
Go as fast as you can to get to the front and stay there without crashing, running out of fuel, or bursting a tyre. Watch out for Richard Petty in the blue flashing car! There are various things that can help you win...
TURBO BOOST - Makes you go faster, but uses more fuel and makes car uncontrollable on bends. You must be going at top speed before you can engage Turbo Boost. The other cars can use Turbo Boost as well)
CUTTING THE TURNS - Take a certain line through the bends at full speed (250 mph) with the Joystick hard over, and you'll find you can retain full speed. The car will do a beautifully controlled four-wheel drift.
SLIPSTREAMING - Tucking yourself In behind the car in front saves fuel. This Is indicated by the noise of rushing air and the car fuming a lighter shade of blue.
LEANING ON CARS - You can bump lightly Into other cars to get them out of the way, and lean on them going through the bends.
There are other things that can slow you down or put you out of the race completely...
ENGINE TROUBLE - Recognised by the car's inability to hold its speed when Fire button Is disengaged. If left unattended, this can cause breakdown or accident. Remedy - make a Pit Stop!
TYRES & FUEL - Keep an eye on the Tyre Wear and Fuel gauges, which flash when approaching critical condition. Make a Pit Stop to change tyres or refuel!

IN THE PITS
The Pit Is an area resembling a lay-by on the left just before the Start/Finish line. Slow down, pull into Pit and stop. Choose job to be done by moving Cursor with Joystick and pressing Fire.
