Let people enjoy things27 Aug 2022
If someone likes a game, they like it. If someone doesn't like a game, they don't like it. If they want to express themselves about a particular game by calling it "the best game ever" so far as they're concerned, let them instead of being a miserable old sod at every opportunity you get.
There is no "telling the truth about a game" *other than* explaining your own feelings about it, because everyone feels differently about these things.

The castle in the title picture is actually a real castle, rendered very well here. The C64-version looks like a silly cartoon by comparison.
It's very difficult to find a photo from that exact angle, though, so I wonder how they did that..Google Street View doesn't work around that area besides 'individual location photos' for some reason.
The name of the castle is Wewelsburg Castle, a unique-looking thing if I ever saw one.
The game itself is definitely not even near 'the best game ever', it's a pretty dull and difficult romp, that for some reason inspired the simplistic 'Wolfenstein 3D' (they dropped the word 'Castle' from the name, as well as 'being able to disguise yourself' and other things, but it's still a pretty good game).
There's not that much to this game, and the gameplay is tedious. There has to be a truckload of better castle games, escape games, spy games and such than this.
I think some people let nostalgy affect their judgment on games - just because you like a game, doesn't mean it's good, and just because you hate a game, doesn't mean it's bad. Learn to be neutral and tell the truth about a game regardless of your own feelings for it.

Castle Wolfenstein is just about the best game ever made for the Atari 800, but I do wish it had the color graphics from the IBM PC version, instead of the b/w look. Also, bumping into things shouldn't cause massive seizures. Should an epileptic be sent on dangerous spy missions? Is that really a good plan?

I could never figure this game out, can anyone provide some hints on what to do? Should the entire screen flash when you touch a wall or chest?

This game is great, and is still fun to play. My crowning achievement in video games was beating this when i was 11 years old after hours and hours...i still have the Polaroid my dad took of my next to the TV smiling with the ending screen!! LOVE IT

I just hooked my Atari 130xe I almost forgot how much I loved this game. It is a true classic, and still one of the hardest games I have ever played. The sequel is great too.
