Agitation

Agitation is easy to learn, tough to solve! If you have very little patience
or a short fuse, back off now. This is the most indescribably difficult,
infuriatingly impossible program you could choose to run on your Atari!

Agitation is freeware and requires a monochrome monitor.
Opening Screen
--------------
You will very shortly be presented with the opening screen (based upon
Escher's Knot) and then the main help dialog. The basic puzzle consists of a
full screen DEGAS picture divided into 176 squares and then randomly strewn
about. It is up to you to figure out what the picture is and while doing so,
re-assemble the pieces. But there's lots more...
Point and Click
---------------
Press any key to exit the initial help dialog and the opening screen will be
scrambled right before your eyes! Click the left mouse once over top of any
square. An inverse cross (X) will appear within the square. Click again on
any other square and the two will switch positions. Well, so far so good.
Loading and Saving Puzzles
--------------------------
Press F4 to load a new puzzle into Agitation. Puzzles use the DEGAS .PI3
extension but also have data files (.DAT) that use the same name. These
are loaded automatically along with the puzzle screen.
It is doubtful you will finish a puzzle in one sitting. Use F3 to save your
work to disk. You must use the extension .PI3 when saving your puzzle.
You can create your own puzzles by loading any DEGAS monochrome picture using
the .PI3 extension into Agitation. The program will immediatley recognise
this as a new puzzle and mix it up. Use F3 to save the new puzzle to disk in
its jumbled state.
Sneak Peek
----------
You can peek by pointing at any block and pressing the right mouse button.
This is cheating. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Those that are really having a tough time will quickly realize that you can
drag the mouse around while holding down the right button to reveal other
blocks.
I will be disappointed if you do this.
Cheat Mode
----------
Pressing F1 will number all of the blocks. This way, if you can count, you
can easily solve the puzzle.
Do not let your friends or neighbors see you press F1. Pull down the shades.
Press F1 again to cancel cheat mode.
Cheat Peek
----------
Do not confuse "sneak peek" with "cheat peek". Only the most contemptuous
individuals would dream of pressing F5. No further instruction is nescessary
as I doubt a person of your calibre will be using this option.
I Give Up
---------
Also known as the "get a life" option. The computer will solve the puzzle for
you if you press F2. This is actually a fun option. The computer goes about
solving the puzzle as if it where a human being. You and the kids will enjoy
watching as the computer quickly marks and manipulates the puzzle blocks.
Press UNDO to cancel at any time.
Help
----
Press the help key to recall the very first dialog box.
Undo
----
The undo key exits back to the desktop. So does the reset button on the back
of your computer!
Some Pointers
-------------
The easier puzzles usually have large borders with small central pictures.
The unattainable puzzles are digitized photos.
Check out my Jiffydraw program online. It is freeware and you won't find a
simpler platform for drawing your own puzzle screens. If you have small
children, try drawing puzzles with just circles or squares.
