I found the exact problem and fixed it. Programmer just forgot to clean low RAM, and that had some unwanted content in case of TOS 1.04, 1.06/62 . http://atari.8bitchip.info/ASTGA/O/overland.php

Good observation Marakatti. Although, it is TOS 1.02 on which it works (1.00 too, I guess). On 1.04 fails, even on ST. I will look into it better, because this is interesting case - game uses TOS to load files, after starting play part TOS is not called anymore .

Could it be more like an STe incompatibility issue? I booted the image three times on STf / TOS 1.2UK and it never went to a debugger after completing the first level. On STe / TOS 1.62 it crashes after a while. That's why it has been marked as ST only in the database.

This release (STX image) is buggy. It crashes after short play. What is good is in Power Pack compilation.

A very hard game, I remember only reaching level two for years. But something kept me coming back to this gem, and many hours later I beat the game, with skill!
