INSTRUCTIONS

             Minefield

The object is to get as many of
your tanks through the enemy
minefield, while preventing
your opponent getting his tanks
through by placing five mines
on your minefield. To be
successful you must get at
least as many tanks through as
the enemy does.

The movement icons are,
clockwise from top right, 'self
destruct' (for when things get
hopeless), move up-right, move
up, move up-left and shoot.
You get two shots for each tank
to try to find the position of
mines. Safe squares show up as
'smileys' and danger squares
show as skulls. Shots do not
destroy the mines, only show
their positions.

There are three difficulty levels.

     LEVEL 1. (DEAD EASY)

The dumb enemy! The enemy tank
does not shoot. Also, it is so
dumb it does not record the
position of mines that have
already destroyed one of its
tanks.

     LEVEL 2. (QUITE EASY)

Quite a dumb enemy. Again the
enemy tank does not fire, but
this enemy WILL record the
positions of mines it has hit,
and will avoid them at all
costs. In hopeless cases it
will commit suicide!

    LEVEL 3. (INTELLIGENT)

This is a real adversary! It
will fire its gun to try to
find mines (two shots per
tank). If it finds all five
mines it will not fire again,
but will start moving right
away. It will avoid any mines
it finds, and will take the
cyanide option in cases where
movement is impossible.

The game is over when all eight
tanks have been used up by both
players. You will then be
given a report on your success
or otherwise of your mission,
and given a chance to try again
or resign.

A 'help text' is available when
in the main game by right
clicking the mouse.
