Let's be frank, only a couple companies were putting any real effort into making Atari 8bit games at this time and Anco wasn't one of them. I just read that Atari User P6 review today too, and wow, Anco pretty much didn't want nayone to know this existed.

Adam, if it makes you feel any better, the C64 version has horizontal gameplay too and was also apparently panned (Zzap 64 gave it 37% and said "the only similarities between this and Amiga 'Kick Off' are the play options and the name. [..] For me, this simply *isn't* Kick Off"). I notice it has a rarity of "8", which isn't surprising. New Atari User's review noted that Anco had given it no apparent publicity and wondered how they expected people to buy it if they didn't know it existed!

I was devastated when I got it through the post. Every other format I'd played it on had vertical scrolling and was ultrafast. This was horizontal and slow. Dreadful.

    A truly awful game.
