To be brief, this sequel is as horrible as the original game was great. A tremendous letdown at the time...

This was a disappointing follow-up to the superlative original. Having it take place in the future is a nice idea, but the game is so hard to play! It's like knowing how to drive on one side of the road all your life and then be expected to do the opposite. Nearly all of the diagonal shoot 'em ups like Zaxxon and the original Blue Max play the similarly. But this doesn't, and it makes steering a task in trying to shoot enemies and bomb targets. This has nowhere the repeat play value of its predecessor. In fact, I never can get through a full game of Blue Max 2001 because of the difficulty factor and my interest level.
