Its hard to pinpoint what made this game so great, but for me, it was the type of realistic lifestlye traits that your character had to experience to actually make progress in this game. You had to really gamble to travel to touhg parts of the galaxy to make larger profits, deal with muggers on the street without getting killed, careful to not go too far exporing the planetary surfaces without a load of emergency food. Or you could just sit at the bar getting tipsy waiting for a fight.
The "moon" ending on a surface with no atmosphere to win the game was truly memorable. I can still being quite shocked that I didn't survive when getting out of my landing pod with no helmet on!
Not as complex as the Ultima series by any means, but it had a ton of asthetic appeal that was helped by the ST's brilliant colors and graphics. The landscapes were awesome. True sci-fi role-playing at its very best. |
