 POOLS - EXPERT RESULTS PREDICTOR
                             'GEM' Version (3.xx)

This version is substantially different from all pre v3.00 releases, as it has
been entirely rewritten. For those of you interested it is written in GFA
Basic with a few machine code routines added for speed.

This version 3.02 is now available from LICENCED DISTRIBUTORS/PD LIBRARIES,
as well as direct from BAY COMPUTERS.

ANY PERSON OR ORGANISATION FOUND TO BE DISTRIBUTING OR COPYING THIS SOFTWARE
WITHOUT A LICENCE WILL BE BREAKING THE LAW AND WILL BE PROSECUTED AS SUCH.

If you like this program and intend to keep it, then please register with me
as a user, as it will only cost you œ15. You will then be supplied with the
latest version, a larger results database, up-to-date league tables, and a
printed manual. You will also be kept informed of any future upgrades.

                                 INTRODUCTION

Please note that I cannot offer the answer of how to exactly pinpoint where
the score draws will appear on the pools coupon. But, I can however help to
guide you in the right direction.

There is, and always will be, a luck element in where the draws will fall as
well as many other factors that must be considered. For example, a goalkeeper
may have the flu, or the centre forward may be out with a broken leg, or
perhaps a certain team can't play in the rain!

If anybody or anything could accurately predict all the draws then no one
person would get 1 million pounds, but 1 million people would probably get 1
pound!!!

After saying all that, this program will give you a very good chance of
catching the draws, and hopefully will be very profitable for all users.

                              PREDICTION SYSTEM

There are currently three prediction methods built into the program:

METHOD 1: This was the first method I produced it will calculate a form figure
for the home team based on their last 3 home results, and a form figure for
the away team based on their last 3 away results. The database of previous
results is the consulted to examine what the results were in the past for this
combination of forms, and will predict accordingly.

METHOD 2: This is similar to method 1, but has been enhanced to include
current league position and actual past scores (rather than results).

LUCK: An entirely random selection, using the computer's random number
generator. An electronic pin??

                                  MAIN MENU

The following options are all available from the main screen, but not all at
the same time, as certain actions will enable/disable other related options.
For example you must Load or Create a fixture list before you can predict any
match results.

                                  QUICKSTART

If you are like me, you lik to get going immediately, and only read the manual
when you hit a snag, then this is a brief summary of the path you should
follow:-
                     1. Boot-up 'POOLS.PRG'

2a. Select 'Load Fixture List' or 2b. Select 'Create Fixture List'
                                             2c. Edit & Save

                     3. Select 'Predict Results'

It's really as easy as that! Remember to enter the fixture results when you
know them, as this will increase tyhe size of the past results database which
is examined for all predictions.
