According to original developers of Laser Squad they showed a demo from Atari ST version of Laser Squad 2 to Microprose. Game would have an isometric style like Populous. Microprose wanted something bigger and the remaining bits of Atari ST version of Laser Squad II finally evolved to UFO:Enemy Unknown for Amiga / PC in march 1994.
