INSTRUCTIONS

                               KINGDOM
Kingdom is a game of skill and luck for one or more players. The
scenario is a mediaeval town with you as the monarch. Your subjects
have given you ten years to sort out the mess left by the previous
monarch. Each year you must decide how to use your population (i.e
which jobs they will do) and how to spend your money (except that in
year 1 there is no money in the treasury!).

Playing the game
At the start of the game, you are prompted to enter the names of
each player. When you have entered all the players' names just press
<> to continue. The first player's turn will then begin.

People
The first decision screen shows your reserve - how many of your
population have not been given jobs - together with four icons. By
pointing at each of the icons, your subjects can be allocated to jobs.
The left mouse button is used to decrease the number of people doing a
job; the right mouse button is used to increase the number.

The icons represent the following occupations:

Top left: Soldier
Top right: Farmer
Bottom left: Merchant
Bottom Right: Workers
Soldiers defend the town from bandits. Farmers grow grain to feed
the population. Merchants make money. Workers build things and improve
quality of life.

Money
The second decision screen shows your treasury reserve and a
series of icons representing the various things you can do with your
money. As in the previous screen decisions are made by pointing at an
icon and using the left or right mouse buttons to respectively
decrease or increase an amount. On the money screen the icons
represent:

Top left Weapons (to make your soldiers more effective)
Top middle Food (buy grain)
Top right Farming tools (to make your farmers more efficient)
Bottom left Ships (to allow merchants to get to more customers)
Bottom middle Bank - medaieval interest rates were attractive!
Bottom right Building tools for your workers
When finished, point to the "DONE" box and the next player will
be prompted for their decisions. When all players have entered their
decisions, each in turn will be shown the consequences of their
decisions, and given any other news affecting their kingdom. A summary
of their performance so far is then given. After this stage, a score

table is given. Scores are given as a percentage of acceptable
performance: a monarch scoring 100% or better can expect to keep their
head on their shoulders (this is not a plug for shampoo- I use prune
juice on my hair so I can just wash.....and go!).
