INSTRUCTIONS
****************************************************************** * * * ATTENTION ALL MANAGERS * * HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS TO PLAY FOOTBALL 88 * * * ****************************************************************** If you come across any ERRORS during the game then before running this program ensure that you turn the machine off and on with a short gap and then double-click on FOOT.PRG (ie skip the loader) The loader is very memory intensive and does cause trouble on some 520 ST's particularly the 520STE whose operating system is somewhat larger than previous ones. There is no memory problem with 1040's. DESK ---- Brief information about the programmer. STAFF ----- To SELL PLAYERS you can put them on the market. You will then be offered money as and when another team is interested. To BUY PLAYERS you simply select the player you want and if he is interested you will be allowed to offer a figure. To FIRE STAFF will cost you 4 times his normal wage but immediately dispenses of the player. New trainees join at the beginning of a season and some in your care may improve. The age limit is 18 and by clicking on a player will permanently transfer him into the main team. GAMES ----- To display last or this weeks results/games, yearly games and previous results or the present cup draw see this menu. PLAY ---- The most important option here is START NEXT GAME, this will allow you to change your squad and will then either move on to the next player or start calculating the results. So if you plan to do anything other than change your team, then this should be your last move. The first thing you see before your squad is the game in question. The numbers in brackets represent there respective positions in the league. The F.A Cup is dealt with slightly differently. You are not allowed to select any other options. The first thing you see is the complete draw followed by automatic selection of each managers squad (still in the cup) in the order in which each team comes in the print. Note at all times that at the squad selection screen we print the teams name and the initial screen displaying the game should also remind you. During the normal run of events the managers are always in the same order as you entered them when setting up the game. Each manager is also given a different colour for display throughout the game. The higher the LEVEL the better your manager points accumulate, at the same time games are more difficult to win. STATUS will show the name of the present manager in control, their present level and score. OPTIONS ------- Various selections regarding displaying results, tables, previous team information and Cup choices can be made here. Just select the option you require, you will find a tick next to the present selections. (These options are saved with the main data) Name players will allow you to change all team players names and trainees, Press Return and present name will be kept. GENERAL ------- You have, like in real life, a very ruthless bank manager who has somehow allowed your team an overdraft of œ100,000. Go one penny over and you'll be sacked because he's a very influential member of the clubs board of Directors. HINTS AND TIPS -------------- Do not change the level too much. Obviously keep a balanced side and don't ignore Speed and Age. Think about what skills each players position requires. (Goalkeeper obviously doesn't apply just go for the highest ratings anywhere) Some are obvious, others a little more difficult. Experiment and make sure any type of cover is available for injuries and ideally keep some good spare positional players money isn't everything if you have it spend it. That's about all I need to tell you about how to play FOOTBALL 88. ****************************************************************** * * * FOOTBALL 88 IS ONLY A PRELIMINARY VERSION OF A COMMERCIAL * * PROGRAM NOW BEING OFFERED, BRIEF DETAILS CAN BE * * FOUND IN READ_ME2 * * * ******************************************************************
