INSTRUCTIONS

COMPANION I: Opening Moves

Companion I requires a joystick, color monitor, and a 520ST
with no accessories loaded. Place KEYCLICK.PRG in an AUTO
folder then CLICK_ME.PRG in the same AUTO folder (the order
is important, KEYCLICK then CLICK_ME). Copy the rest of the
files in the main directory and the program will automatically
run when the disk is booted.

Special kudos to Lee Actor and Gary Levenberg at Synthetic Software
for permission to use their copyrighted GIST Sound Driver (c) 1986.
Their driver really adds sparkle to the Atari's speaker.

When you first boot up Companion press the space bar to move past the
opening screen.

After the opening screen you will be presented with the Main Menu.
Use the joystick to light up the desired choice and press the fire button
to make your selection.

The program will initially select Log On as this will usually be the
desired choice, however, on your first trip with the Companion please
take the time to view the other menu selections in order. Use the
joystick button to advance the pages within these selections.

Almost all interaction with the program is through the joystick with the
following exceptions:

Insert allows a new player to log on at the Log Screen.
Undo cancels player name entry in case of error.
Escape backs the user out of the Log Screen to the Main Menu.
Escape backs the user out of an Individual Log Page to the Log Screen.
Space pauses the game and displays current score data.

LOG ON. . .
Selecting Log On causes the computer to read the drive
looking for the CAPTAINS.LOG file. If the file is not found you will
be given an opportunity to write a new one, press the space bar to move
past the message alerting you that the file was not found and then reply
to the next message with the Y key to write a file.

After the CAPTAINS.LOG has been read or created you will arrive at
the Log Screen. Use the light bar to select an empty log line and press
the insert key. Enter your name in the lower window, if you wish to cancel
the entry press the undo key, otherwise hit Return to enter your name
in the log.

Pressing the fire button will replace the Log Screen with an
Individual Log Page. Use the joystick to light the desired level and
press the fire button to launch the ROCM.

The Documentation has been purposely made slightly cryptic.
Become the story and you will figure it out.

	Suggestions and comments welcome.
