Welcome to this implementation of
that old favourite, Yahtsee.  In
case you are unfamiliar with this
dice game, I will go over the rules.

The object of the game is to
complete the score sheet with as
high a score as possible. Various
combinatiions of dice score
differing numbers of points.

QUICK GUIDE
~~~~~ ~~~~~
You start by throwing 5 dice.  If
you decide to keep any of them, they
are set aside and not thrown again
that round.  The remainder of the
dice are thrown, and any dice you
wish to keep are put aside, and the
remainder are thrown.  After this
throw, the dice are combined with
the ones previously set aside, and
their score recorded on the score
sheet.  This procedure is repeated
until the score sheet is filled.
All the boxes in the score sheet
MUST be filled.  If a particular
combination of dice will not score
in any of the boxes, then a zero
score must be filled in.
DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS
~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~

The game splits neatly into two
parts.

1. The Throwing screen

2. The Scoring screen

THROWING THE DICE
~~~~~~~~ ~~~ ~~~~
When the game starts the 5 dice are
already rolling.  When they stop,
some or all of them may be selected
by clicking on them.  They may be
deselected by clicking on them
again.  When you are sure you have
selected the correct number of dice,
click on the ROLL button.  (Once the
ROLL option has been clicked on, the
dice that have been set aside may
NOT be deselected!)  The unselected
dice will now roll.  When they stop
more dice may be selected.  When you
are ready, click the ROLL button for
the last time this round.  After
this roll you will enter the SCORE
SCREEN.
SCORING THE DICE
~~~~~~~ ~~~ ~~~~

The scoring screen shows the
scorepad and in the lower left
corner the combination you rolled.
Clicking on any of the score boxes
will bring up an alert box showing
the score your combination will make
in that box, giving you the option
of scoring, or retrying another box.
After you have successfully scored
your combination, its back to
'rolling them bones' again.

COMBINATIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The scorepad is split into 2 parts,
the UPPER and the LOWER.
UPPER
~~~~~

ONE Scores the total of 1's in
          the combination
          eg. 1 1 1 4 6  = 3

TWO Scores the total of 2's in
          the combination
          eg. 1 2 2 5 5  = 4

THREE Scores the total of 3's in
          the combination
          eg. 1 3 3 3 3  = 12

FOUR Scores the total of 4's in
          the combination
          eg. 4 5 5 5 6  = 4

FIVE Scores the total of 5's in
          the combination
          eg. 1 1 1 5 5  = 10

SIX Scores the total of 6's in
          the combination
          eg. 1 6 6 6 6  = 24

If you score more than 63 in the
upper section, you get a 25 point
bonus.

LOWER
~~~~~
ONE PAIR  Scores 10 points for any
          pair.
          eg. 1 2 2 3 6  = 10
              2 2 2 2 2  = 10
TRIPLE    Scores 20 points for any
          three dice of the same
          value.
          eg. 1 2 4 4 4  = 20
QUAD      Scores 40 points for any
          four the same.
          eg. 3 3 3 3 6  = 30
TWO PAIR  Scores 15 points for any
          two pairs.
          eg. 1 1 3 6 6  = 15
              1 2 2 2 2  = 15
FULL      Scores 25 points for a
HOUSE     pair and a triple in the
          same combination.
          eg. 1 1 1 3 3  = 25
              5 5 6 6 6  = 25
SHORT     Scores 30 points for a
STRAIGHT  sequence of four
          consecutive numbers.
          eg. 1 2 3 4 6  = 30
              2 3 4 5 5  = 30
              1 3 4 5 6  = 30
LONG      Scores 40 points for a
STRAIGHT  sequence of five
          consecutive numbers.
          eg. 1 2 3 4 5  = 40
              2 3 4 5 6  = 40
ROLLER    Scores 50 points for a set
          of five numbers all the
          same.
          eg. 2 2 2 2 2  = 50
RUBBISH   Scores the total points
          value of all five dice.
          No special combinations
          needed.
          Very useful for when you
          foul up!
          eg. 1 2 3 5 6  = 17
SPECIAL BUTTONS
~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~

On the 'roll the dice' screen there
are four buttons.

RESTART Gives you the option of
          restarting the game with a
          fresh scorepad.  For when
          things are just not going
          your way!

QUIT      Obvious, surely!

SCORES Gives you a five second
          view of the scorepad.
          Useful for checking what
          combinations you already
          have.

ROLL Rolls the dice and locks
          out the selected dice.
          Even if you are lucky
          enough to get your chosen
          combination first time,
          and select all the dice,
          you must still click on
          ROLL until you use up your
          two throws.

Well, that about wraps it up. The
only thing I will add is that the
program maintains a HIGH SCORE
table, so keep your disk write
enabled. ie keep the little write
protection hole closed off.

          Happy Rolling,

                    Donald Campbell
