Maybe this is the tape version of IK, which I copied from tape to disk (with Howfen's Tape to Disk program)...?!? Would explain why there are only three backdrops and maybe also why there is a german adventure on this disk (maybe I forgot to wipe, ermm, format the disk, before I wrote onto it). Will try to copy the tape again onto disk and see if the NYC backdrop looks like this one... |

It should also be pointed out that the Sydney picture in the beta version is slightly different from the one that shipped with the commercial release. This backdrop is actually closer to the C64 version. Link: http://www.lemon64.com/games/popup_screen.php?s=international_karate;02;12 |
| While missing the music and sound effects of the commercial edition, this version had a couple of nice features. Besides the ability to change the background, you could play against the computer or a human opponent for unlimited falls. I found the latter quite handy for training purposes when playing against someone who was not as a skilled player as I was on the full edition. |

Seems to be an early demo of the game with no sound and just three different backdrops: Sydney, New York City and Mount Fuji. Pressing OPTION while you're playing takes you to a different location. Notice the slightly different graphics in New York City!
Unfortunately, it seems there is some code from an unknown German adventure on the disk so this beta is not fully authentic.
Missing original disk image! |
