Tom Hudson was one of the greatest Atari machine language Arcade style programmers from back in the day and prolific! (Tom made many games with ! at name's end)
"Livewire!" , "Fill'er Up!" , "Bacterion!" , "Retrofire!" , "Buried Bucks" , "Chopper Hunt" , "Fire Bug" , "Harvey Wallbanger" , "Planetary Defense" plus others...
Tom probably didn't get the recognition he should've because analog has a slight B grade reputation, because many of their games were type-ins therefore simple and not large in size. Tom squeezed tons of Arcade action from just 4K 5K 6K games. Retrofire! is 5187 bytes size. Bacterion! is even smaller.
Tom cloned a lot of actual Arcade consoles. Bacterion! copies "RipOff!" didn't the arcade model have ! in name too? Fill'er Up copies "Qix" and Livewire! copies Atari's own "Tempest" and I believe no body else cloned Tempest as good as Tom Hudson. |
