CHEAT MODE unlimited lives, search for the sequence $"DE 90 20" then change this one byte from $DE to $AD.
Lives cheat works both on old files and the new enhanced graphics version, which the latter is the one to be playing. Character animations are greatly improved in the new. Rule book says the first extra life is earned at 40000 pts. |
| Seems someone got the 1982 source code, threw out the self imposed 16KB code limit for cartridges, and made a new version with better "arcade" faithful graphics. New version uses 32KB, fixes the gripe having to do with punching bottles, new game opens with saying "programmed by David Johnson 1982", but was made much more recently like 2015, on AtariAge.com, this New Popeye would look great here on AMania. |

Very memorable, a good game. |
| A fairly good conversion of the arcade game, even though the graphics had to be simplified. My biggest gripe with the game has to do with the Sea Hag. When she throws the bottles, you have to time your punches exactly, or else you end up getting hit. In the arcade, you could simply throw rapid punches and do away with them with ease. In this version, throwing punches too fast causes the bottles to go by your fist, thus costing you a life! |
