There were 2 versions of Dig Dug released on Atari 8-bit computers. The first release was done by programmers from General Computer Corporation (GCC) in 1982. The dirt was solid, the enemies were 2 color, and the music stops when you stand still. Because of the 2 color enemies, there was some flicker, and the hit detections was not as good.
The second release was done by Datasoft and released in 1984. This is the release that was used on the 5200. The dirt on this release was spotted, and the enemies were 1 color, and the music plays when you stand still. This version had very little flicker and better hit detection.
